This blog is important to me as I recognize many healthcare providers don’t have time to read the nitty gritty details of research. I was there and utilized many personal resources to in an attempt to stay current, but this is not feasible for many people.

As I enter a career in research, I wonder “What is the point of publishing literature only for other researchers to read?” “Who is my target audience?” “What does my target audience want to know?”

The purpose of many manuscripts is to start a conversation and inform various stakeholders of the findings. So how do we translate the evidence and generate dialogue between clinicians and researchers? I’m not sure I know the answer. I have ideas, but so do you.

These are some of the many reasons and questions I have on a daily basis.

  1. Practice should inform researchers of the gaps and the research should inform practice.
  2. Research is hard to digest. How do we make it more user friendly?
  3. Practice is complex. Evidence-based practice has three prongs: the literature, the clinician’s expertise and the patient. Each prong is a complex entity and bringing them together can leave you in the thick of it.
