I have had many influences shape my approach as an OT—each resource and strategy has the potential to be useful when employed at the appropriate time. To kick us off, I am listing some of my favorite websites specific to neurorehabilitation that have stood the test of time. I have used these resources to learn and implement new assessments and interventions in my practice.
- Evidence-Based Review of Moderate to Severe Brain Injury: Synthesizes information from the literature to better inform your practice and understand what evidence is strong to support translation into practice and other areas that need more work.
- Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center: This site is fantastic! It has factsheets, figures, and video clips that aim to translate knowledge.
- Rehab Measures Database: Provides educational resources on selecting an outcome measure and information about many existing measures.
- Stroke Engine: Offers information on assessments, interventions, and e-learning. A great resource for families and clinicians.
- The Center for Outcome Measurement in Brain Injury: A great website to check out measures specific to brain injury.
I have always been a member of my state and national association. I find the tools and resources they provide invaluable. As a new OT, my original state association provided access to ProQuest and I found this very useful. Now, this benefit is accessible to NBCOT Certificate holders.
- ProQuest at NBCOT: When you find an article you find useful, add it to your personal library using RefWorks so you can quickly look it up. Refworks is also a valuable feature for NBCOT certificate holders!
- AOTA: Knowledge is power. You can stay up to date on literature published in OT Practice and the American Journal of Occupational Therapy by becoming and maintaining your membership.
Let me know what you think of these resources! Please reach out and suggest additional sources for information!
